Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses see themselves through the gift of photography while raising money for pediatric cancer research. The portraits, taken by award-winning photographers, help children feel better about their changing appearance by celebrating it. For families of terminally ill children, it’s especially important to have a portrait that preserves forever the beauty, grace and dignity of their child.

I am proud to serve as the director of the Indianapolis chapter of Flashes of Hope. Along with a great team of photographers, volunteers and stylists from Tyler-Mason Salon & Spa (the stylists for the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders) we rotate each month between Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. We also host a one day photo shoot for Camp Little Red Door at Bradford Woods. All families receive 8x10's, 5x7's and a set of proofs along with a link to a website where they may view, share and download their images free of charge.

At Flashes of Hope, our goal is to photograph every child until every child is cured.

Pirates & Princesses

A picture means a lot. For some, a picture can mean everything, which is why we’d like to introduce you to "Pirates & Princesses", (formally known as Princess For A Day) – an event created to benefit Flashes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children bravely battling cancer. Locally, each month since 2007, the Indianapolis chapter of Flashes of Hope has transformed rooms at Riley Hospital for Children and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital into a photography studio, giving the children and their families a chance to break from the routine of the hospital and medicine.

For the ninth year in a row, Spotlight Photography hosted “Pirates & Princess” to benefit Flashes of Hope. This event gives children of all ages the unique opportunity to feel like a real life Princess or Pirate for a day, while giving back to other children battling cancer in their community. For a $25 donation (parents get in free) to Flashes of Hope, children are treated to a day of fun including a makeover, photo shoot, copies of professional pictures, age appropriate games and activities and a celebration of life. Banners featuring children photographed through Flashes of Hope will be proudly displayed throughout the building as a reminder of why we are all on this mission together.

This years event was held on March 10th at The Community Life Center at 10612 east Washington Street from 11 to 3.

"Pirates & Princesses" 2019 was a huge success. Almost 100 children were signed up and the weather was beautiful, so glad the parents didn't have to bring the little ones out on a cold March day. Follow Spotlight Photography and later this year we'll announce the date for  next years event
